Architecture: The Science of Design: Different techniques used to support high buildings (driving
steel, wood or concrete piles deep into the ground until they are strong enough
to support the building, or if that does not work another technique would be the
building is set on an immense slab of reinforced concrete that extends out
beyond the perimeter of the building). The higher the building means the
stronger/ more violent wind, so they must keep this in mind when constructing the
building, if the building has a weak structure the sway (from wind) can damage the structure,
elevators, and even cause motion sickness. Talked about the different materials
that were used in construction of buildings(concrete, steel, wood, stone,
etc.).
Last Call for Planet Earth: Sustainable Development and
Architecture: Architecture is global, people aimlessly use resources, it talks about
how it isn’t hard to use less energy. Talks about architectural design (takes
into account geography, climate, local resources, and renewable materials like
wood) on how to manage and conserve energy(heating, cooling, solar energy). The video talks about how simple apartment
designs in china have a positive impact on ecology and economy. The film talks
about buildings that are energy efficient, and how the elements are important to
sustainable architecture for now and the future.

How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the
reading because they talk about techniques used to support and construct buildings
(Steel frame construction) Also it talks about how the computers are linked up
with the heart of the house, building, etc. , it helps assist the users needs. Video
talks about concrete and other materials like wood, stone and steel that were
used in architecture. Video talks about energy conservation with architectural
design.

What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth
to understanding of Architecture? I thought
both of the videos that I watched were helpful. The video helps add depth to my
understanding of Architecture because when I see how it is done and when it is
explained to me instead of only reading it helps me understand it more. The
videos brought up important concepts that were also brought up in the reading,
so being able to hear about it and read it, helped back up my understanding of architecture
and I learned some new things from both the reading and videos.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I chose the films because
when I looked at the titles of the videos I chose the two that sounded the most
interesting to me.
