Module 8 video and reading question/answers

1.    Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected the video that I chose because I had to choose another video to watch and the one I chose seemed interesting to listen to.

2.    For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
More Human Than Human: How the struggles of early artists led to the triumphs of the world’s great civilizations. Some of the extraordinary ceremonies of the world’s oldest artistic cultures, how they unlocked the deepest secrets of ancient art. Talked about how the human mind drove us to create these images.
The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure: Artists portrayed humans in a realistic way and were obsessed with perfection of the body, made people want to go to the gym. Cycladic sculptures of the fifth century inspire artists today. Sculpture was substantial in sixth century Greece, it gave a new sense of humanism with a realistic and idealistic representation of the human body. Talked about balance and movement in the fifth century statue of Nike and the fourth century state of Hermes.

3.    How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings in the text because in the reading and videos they touch upon how they exaggerate the body how they were “obsessed” with the human body focusing on humanism and idealism. Videos and readings both talk about culture throughout. Also, talks about the principles of balance and movement, and the materials that were used to create this artwork.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
 I thought the films were helpful. It helps add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts because after reading, it was helpful being able to hear about the history and learn some more facts from the videos that wasn’t in the reading.
